There are many different kinds of parties that are popular with people from around
the world. Everyone loves a good party, with the
opportunity to drink yourself silly among good
company and possibly give friends something to
gossip about being too good to pass up. One of
the most popular themes for parties in the United
Kingdom is fancy dress. Who doesn't love the opportunity
to don an afro wig, Kappa tracksuit
and bomber jacket for a cheeky Scouse-themed
party, for example?

Of course, this is just one theme that is possible for a fancy dress
party. It was a particularly popular theme after
Liverpool FC's historic Champions League victory
in 2005, which saw Liverpudlians spill onto the
streets of cities all over the world in celebration.
Other popular party wigs include the mullet (a
term coined by the Beastie Boys in their sporadically-published
Grand Royal magazine), the beehive,
the Elvis/Morrissey quiff and
the punk wig. Choosing an appropriate hairpiece
is very important for the fancy dress aficionado
- experts say you should dress from the head down
for maximum effect. This rule applies equally
for children's fancy dress and
adult fancy dress, although it
should be noted that many children will not keep
a wig on for the course of an evening as all but
the best wigs can be rather uncomfortable.
If you are organising a children's
party, some party classics include face
painting and balloons.
If you are organising a party for teenage children,
these will probably not be appreciated to the
same extent as they would be at a party for the
under 10s. Of course, if you are organising a
party for teenagers there is a very high possibility
that you are a teenager yourself and the last
two things you would want at a party would be
face painting and balloons. Unless, that is, you
are a goth, in which case there
will almost certainly be an amount of face painting
going on. But not balloons. Unless they are filled
with nitrous oxide, as is the trend with some
young partygoers nowadays.
Nitrous oxide balloons may be
considered essential party supplies
by some young people, but should be considered
nothing more than an internship
in the hedonistic world of partying. There is
no doubt that hardened partygoers lose any right
to angel wings after a few too
many late nights. All kinds of things can happen
when hidden behind the anonymity of fancy
dress masks. Just remember - the way
most people are caught out after over-indulging
in hedonistic pursuits in the
twenty-first century is via mobile phones
which record both messages and videos nowadays.
This can mean double trouble for the unfaithful
partygoer.
Parties are fun and should be treated as such. If you are going to a fancy dress party, dress the part and have a good time
